Maryland Mother, 32, Dies in Unexpected Accident, Leaving Behind 2-Month-Old Baby and Husband — Details

A Maryland mother’s untimely passing has prompted an outpouring of support for her grieving husband and infant daughter.

A tragedy in Annapolis, Maryland, has claimed the life of 32-year-old Mary Beth Blasetti, leaving her family and local community devastated. The incident, which involved a golf cart, occurred on November 9, 2024, and resulted in fatal injuries that led to her passing two days later.

According to a press release by the Anne Arundel County Police Department, officers responded to a call from the county fire department at approximately 7:24 p.m. in the 600 block of Maid Marion Hill. Preliminary investigations revealed that Mary Beth had been a passenger in an E-Z-GO golf cart when the incident occurred.

The driver of the golf cart, a 32-year-old woman from Crownsville, Maryland, whose name has not been identified yet, reportedly hit a dip in the road, causing Mary Beth to be ejected from the vehicle.

Mary Beth sustained life-threatening injuries and was immediately airlifted to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. Despite medical intervention, she succumbed to her injuries on November 11.

Justin Mulcahy, a spokesperson for the Anne Arundel County Police Department, described the incident as an “extremely tragic, unfortunate situation” and extended sympathies to those affected.

He stated, “It appears at a certain point they hit some sort of a dip, and at that point, that passenger was ejected from that golf cart or thrown from the golf cart.”

Justin confirmed that while the crash appears accidental, authorities are conducting a thorough investigation in collaboration with the State’s Attorney’s Office to understand the full circumstances.

Following the devastating loss of Mary Beth, the local community and loved ones have come together to provide emotional and financial support to her grieving family.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to assist Mary’s husband, Nick Blasetti, and their 2-month-old daughter, Mary Katharine, during this challenging time. The campaign highlights Mary’s joyous life and her devotion as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend.

“Nick and Mary Beth had recently purchased their first home in Annapolis, Maryland, and welcomed their beautiful 2-month-old daughter in September. Nick and Mary Katharine will have plenty to navigate over the course of the next few months, so we’d like to soften that burden by helping them financially,” read the fundraiser’s description.

As of November 15, 2024, the fundraiser has garnered an overwhelming $312,817 out of its $325,000 goal, with donations continuing to pour in.

Mary’s mother-in-law, Sandi Stein Blasetti, shared the GoFundMe link along with a heartfelt message on Facebook, writing, “Marybeth was such a beautiful person. Our family is devastated by the tragic loss of her.”

In an earlier post from September 5, Sandi shared joyous family photos, marking baby Mary Katharine’s arrival. The pictures captured the Blasetti family’s love and excitement as they welcomed their little girl.

“Meet the newest member of the Blasetti/Devitt family. Miss Mary Katharine (MK) Blasetti born on September 1st. I can’t wait to spoil her rotten!” wrote the proud grandmother.

Mary Beth’s professional and personal circles have expressed their grief. According to her LinkedIn profile, Mary worked as an Affiliate Account Manager at Golden Hippo and was a proud alumnus of the University of West Virginia. She was a member of the WVU Alpha Phi, where fellow sorority sisters like Molli Starcher Hamilton and Devon Lopez mourned her loss.

“Sisters, We have some very sad news. Mary Beth Blasetti (Devitt), a fall 2010 Beta Iota, passed away in a tragic accident over the weekend. She leaves behind her husband and [2-month-old] infant,” penned Molli.

“I placed flowers at the house this morning for her. She was the best,” wrote Devon in the comments section of Molli’s post, alongside a touching image of a memorial adorned with flowers and a poignant family portrait.

Mary Beth’s vibrant spirit and dedication to her family are remembered fondly by all who knew her. Her sudden passing has united her loved ones in collective grief while inspiring acts of generosity and kindness.

The tragedy has also sparked concern about golf cart safety and road conditions near the private golf course where the accident occurred. As the investigation continues, the community remembers Mary Beth as a devoted mother and wife whose untimely death has left an irreplaceable void in the lives of her loved ones.
