Triston Harper, from McIntosh, Alabama, made the top five on the singing competition TV show in season 22.
In his audition, he sang ‘Cover Me Up’ by Jason Isbell while playing the guitar, earning praise from the judges.
Lionel Richie called Harper’s voice ‘a storytelling voice,’ while Katy Perry praised his authenticity and described him as an ‘old soul.’
Now he’s gone viral again after revealing he’s about to become a father.
Due to the singer’s young age, the baby announcement has been met with some controversy.
One person comments: “Two babies having a baby. They don’t even know how to manage their own lives, much less a baby’s.”
However, many people have rushed to congratulate Harper on the exciting news.
“They both look happy, they have support,” someone points out.
In agreement, another adds: “Glad he is married and willing to step into a family role.”
While Harper’s journey to stardom began at a young age, it’s been made even more compelling due to the story of his rough upbringing.
The singer reportedly grew up in a turbulent home and his life turned dark at just 11 years old. His mother is said to have been in an abusive relationship and by age 12, the two were homeless.
During his audition, Harper said (per Heavy.com): “My mama wanted us to be something. That’s why I got into music.”
Harper has continued to pursue his singing career and release new music amid his elimination from American Idol.
His debut single, ‘H.O.P.E.’ is a tribute to his journey and has accumulated over 383,000 Spotify streams.
Harper shared the baby announcement on November 8, 2024, posting a photo of him and his wife, Paris Reed, with a positive pregnancy test.
The singer’s mother chimed in on the announcement, writing: “Now everybody has congratulated me on Triston and Paris getting married but to me, that is old news but now I’m bout to be a ‘G Ma.”
Just two days earlier, Harper and Reed made their marriage official.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
