Sleep expert gives incredibly simple eye trick to do if you can't fall asleep that works 'every single time'

This TikTok expert has given some advice on how to overcome not being able to fall asleep

For a species that spends about a third of our lives snoozing in bed, we don’t seem to be very good at it.

Whether it’s mobile phones buzzing on our bedside table or worries keeping us up, there seems to be no shortage of tossing and turning under the duvets.

Fortunately, a sleep expert has spoken out on TikTok to dispense some advice on falling asleep.

This TikToker had a hack that helped her get back to sleep if she awoke in the night (

TikToker prettysickheather gave out the pearls of wisdom to her 22,000 followers.

She said, “I learned this about 20 years ago. My kids know how to do it; my husband knows how to do it; we all know how to do it.

“I usually sleep through the night with my routine, but occasionally [I’ll wake up in the middle of the night}.

“Yesterday I took my supplements too late in the day, so I had more water than I usually would have, so I had to get up and pee.”

We’ve all been there, haven’t we?

Its even worse when you’ve finally settled down in bed and you have to venture out to the cold bathroom.

But should you return from the toilet and find you can’t get back to sleep, what are you to do?

Fortunately, Heather has a solution.

Heather said, “You’ve got to do this with your eyes closed, but I have to show you with my eyes open.

“It’s going to look ridiculous.

“I’ve never made it past two cycles of this without falling asleep.

“I made it through one and a half last night before I nodded out.”

Sounds promising, doesn’t it?

Usually you’d have to do something really boring to achieve those kinds of results, like listen to somebody describe their work day to you.

Heather instructed: “You’re going to look all the way up with your eyes closed.

“Then you’re going to look all the way down like this.

“Then you’re going to look all the way to the left, bring your eyes to the centre, then to the right.”

It’s probably a good thing people would be doing this with their eyes closed; otherwise, they might freak out anybody sharing their bedroom.

“Then you’re going to look up and then go all the way around like a clock,” Heather continued.

“Then you counterclockwise.

“You then pull them together.”

Some people commented on the video to share their own methods for hitting the hay.

Needless to say, some sound less effective than others.

One viewer wrote, “Can’t do this; I have to think about that embarrassing thing I did one time 12 years ago.”

That’s a hack if you want to stay awake at night, I must say.

Another said, “I’ve got to fantasise about my crush,” as a fellow TikToker commented, “Waking up in the middle of the night is my opportunity to overthink past, present, and never-gonna-happen scenarios.”

It sounds like we all need some help with our sleep—and maybe some emotional support too.
