Red Flag Warning for One US State: Official Information
A Red Flag Warning was issued for the majority of Oklahoma, including the western, northern, and north-central parts of the county, on October 28, 2024.

On its Facebook page, the Norman National Weather Service warned citizens that near-critical fire conditions were expected on October 29 and 30, 2024, and issued a Red Flag Warning for Oklahoma.

The service stated that on the afternoon of October 28, 2024, low humidity, dry plant matter, and strong southern winds will provide the perfect circumstances for wildfires, which are predicted to last until 6:00 p.m.

Residents are advised to abide by fire safety regulations, which include properly disposing of cigarettes, avoiding actions that could spark sparks or flames, and keeping cars away from dry vegetation due to the increased risk of fire.

They should also abide by fire bans, avoid spark-producing equipment, and follow evacuation instructions if necessary. Oklahoma’s western, northern, and north-central regions are anticipated to be particularly impacted.

High temperatures in the upper 80s are predicted on October 28, 2024, along with southern winds of 31 to 37 mph with gusts as high as 55 mph.

As a cold front passes through on October 30, 2024, fire weather conditions are expected to deteriorate. Western Oklahoma is predicted to have near-critical fire hazard due to temperatures as high as 90 degrees and winds that change from south to west at 22 to 29 mph with gusts of up to 44 mph.

On October 24, 2024, a wildfire known as the Rush Fire broke out close to Rush Lake in Southwest Oklahoma. As of October 28, 2024, it has burned 12,497 acres throughout the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge and is now 48 percent contained.
Due to smoke, the refuge is still closed, and the fire is still burning in its Special-Use Area. Kevin Stitt, the governor of Oklahoma, wrote on Facebook to inform the public that all available resources will be made available to assist them and to coordinate wildfire relief.

“A Red Flag Warning is in effect for a large portion of our state due to strong winds and dry conditions,” he continued. Remain alert, heed local warnings, and stay away from anything that can ignite a fire!
Additionally, Oklahoma City Fire Department Scott Douglas has urged people to remove fuel sources from their yards and keep their grass short. When a wildfire strikes a region, these measures stop it from spreading.
The National Weather Service’s Red Flag Warning, which emphasizes the need for citizens to exercise caution due to the possibility of rapid fire spread owing to high winds and dry conditions, is still in effect as firefighters attempt to suppress the Rush Fire in Southwest Oklahoma.
