As two lively and stunning twins celebrated their 102nd birthday together, Toledo, Ohio, was a hive of activity!
The “Johnson twins,” who were born in 1922 and grew up in Toledo’s famed Old West End, celebrated this amazing milestone on September 15 in the Toledo suburb of Sylvania. To celebrate the milestone with the twins, Marilyn Wright and Madelyn Casper, friends and relatives gathered, some of whom traveled from as far away as Texas.
Thomas Casper, Madelyn’s son, told WTVG, “You don’t see twins at 102 very often. We were aware that a huge celebration was required for this one.
There has always been a strong affinity between Marilyn and Madelyn. They have 13 kids together, and they’ve always made time for one another in spite of the responsibilities that come with having big families. Their bond is “like two peas in a pod,” according to Madelyn. They remained in sync, frequently thinking and acting in the same ways even though they resided in different cities.
“I’d call Madelyn and say, ‘I just made a meatloaf,’” Marilyn explained. I wish you were present. “I made one too,” would be her response. In another case, they bought the same cloth to construct curtains for their sons without realizing it.
When sisters are twins, their tie is much deeper. Sisters share a deep connection through both everyday and exceptional occasions in life. Numerous experiences, such as becoming mothers and cooking meatloaf, have strengthened Marilyn and Madelyn’s bond, and they still work together today. Marilyn now acts as Marilyn’s eyes and Marilyn as her ears, despite various difficulties, such as when Madelyn “couldn’t hear” anymore. This keeps their collaboration going.
The centenarian twins are remarkably healthy at 102 years old. “We feel very blessed to still have both of them with us, and they’re both still in pretty good health—physically and mentally,” Julie Fox, Marilyn’s daughter, told WTVG.
Marilyn said that while it’s a good practice to have a cocktail before dinner, the true key to living a long and happy life lies in the heart. “We must encourage people to treat their neighbors with kindness.” Simply be kind. Avoid hatred. “Hate ought to be removed from the dictionary,” she said.
The Toledo twins appear determined to continue spreading happiness and optimism for many years to come!
