Man immediately leaves pub after being ‘told off for way he queued at bar’

There’s a whole community of pub-goers who have had enough

We all know the unspoken rules of ordering at our local. Perhaps yours is a free-for-all or maybe you all know to let that guy who was there before you go first.

Maybe you even have a table service only pub in your area.

But either way, forming a single-file queue instead of lining the bar feels more like the vibe of Nando’s than when you’re out for a few drinks.

And this guy ended up immediately leaving a pub when he was ‘told off for the way he queued at the bar’.

Turns out, there’s a whole Twitter account for people sharing their dissatisfaction with bizarre bar behaviour.

The account description reads: “A campaign to end the recent phenomenon of queuing single file in pubs. We queue for the bus, or for the checkout not at bars.”

So yeah, much like the sh*t Guinness or Wetherspoons chip paltry groups, this one sees people sharing snaps of pub queues that they are, well, fuming at.

It comes as people are getting increasingly p**sed off by the uniformed behaviour of joining a single file queue to order a drink, rather than the usual walking right up (or barging past) to line along the bar and scramble your way to ordering.

You’ve got to admit, it can feel a little odd (and a little lockdown-y) to stand in an organised queue for the bar rather than being shoulder-to-shoulder with other pint ordering hopefuls.

The submission into the Pub Queues group was from someone who had reportedly visited a Wetherspoons in Exeter, the Imperial.

They wrote: “Imperial, Exeter. Got told off for walking to the bar. Instantly left.”

In the image, they’re stood behind two other customers in an orderly line for the bar, with the server taking orders one-by-one.

And look, there’s no denying this kind of system can make it easier for bar staff but it just feels a bit unnecessary and kills the pubby vibe. Plus, it’s annoying as f**k when you’re trying to get across the space and have to keep weaving through queues to get past.

Users said the customer was ‘quite right’ to leave as one claimed: “Luckily I have yet to encounter the dreaded pub queue, but I’d do exactly the same and walk out.”

Another echoed: “Ridiculous. Any pub expect me to queue, I will take my money elsewhere.”

As others said everyone should ‘refuse to engage with it’, one regular pointed out while they dislike the practice’ it ‘actually works quite well in that smaller bar’.

Well, meet you at the bar lads – or in the queue, I guess.
