The “Espresso” pop star brought out Musgraves as a surprise guest during her headlining set on Saturday
Sabrina Carpenter had a surprise in store for Outside Lands attendees this year as she delivered her headlining set.
On Saturday, Aug. 10, the “Please Please Please” pop star, 25, brought Kacey Musgraves out on stage at the San Francisco festival so the two could perform a cover of Nancy Sinatra’s 1966 hit “These Boots Are Made for Walkin,'” per a video shared by the festival.
According to fan-captured footage, Carpenter introduced her guest by telling the crowd, “OK, Bay Area, I have a surprise for you. Do you want it?” She added, “Well, I do have a surprise, and it’s honestly more for me than it is for you, but I think you’ll enjoy it as well.”
“There’s an artist that I’ve just loved for my entire life, and she is just so remarkable in so many ways, and her voice has just taken me through so much of my life in so many pivotal moments, and she means the world to me,” the singer continued. “And somehow she cleared her schedule to be here with us tonight.”
After Musgraves, 35, emerged from backstage, she and Carpenter hugged and shared a sweet moment before going into their lively rendition. The Grammy-winning country singer wore a fitted silver minidress and heels, while Carpenter sported a sparkly strappy dress and matching knee-high boots with a tambourine in tow.
After the pair’s performance, the “Feather” singer raved to the audience, “Guys, that was so cool. That was like a dream.”
Musgraves returned the kind words to Carpenter in an Instagram post that featured photos of the duo from their performance. She captioned it, “We were working late because we are singers. Last night was a short and sweet little dream 🫧🤍 ily @sabrinacarpenter. Thanks for having me.”
Elsewhere during Carpenter’s Outside Lands set—which replaced previous headliner Tyler, the Creator after he pulled out—the performer treated fans to other songs like “Tornado Warnings,” “Nonsense,” “Feather,” and her viral hit “Espresso.”
She recapped her latest festival appearance—which marked her first time as a headliner — on Instagram the following day with photos from her set captioned, “headlined @outsidelands :o. Thank you to everyone who came. Special thank you to the angel that is @spaceykacey for coming out to sing and dance to Nancy Sinatra with me.”
She concluded, “And thank you to my whole team and crew. All the talented people who made this show happen on and off stage, I love you all so much.”
Carpenter is next set to kick off her Short ‘n’ Sweet headlining tour in North America next month. It’ll begin in Columbus, Ohio, on Sept. 23 before making stops in Toronto, New York City, Chicago, Nashville, Orlando, Portland, and more cities. The star will conclude her run of concerts in Los Angeles on Nov. 15.
