The final episode of the Finnish version of The Traitors has been postponed after one of its contestants was murdered.

Reality competition show The Traitors sees a group of Faithfuls work together to win a grand cash prize.

The only catch? They must work out the identity of the Traitors among them, while avoiding being eliminated from the game. If the Traitors aren’t all caught be the end, the Faithfuls will leave empty handed.

Based on Dutch series De Verraders, there are more than 20 versions of the show around the world.

This past weekend, Janne Puhakka, who’d been a contestant on season two of the Finnish rendition of the show – named Petolliset – was shot to death by his former partner in the city of Espoo.

The series had been filmed earlier this year with the finale due to air this Thursday (24 October).

Puhakka – who was Finland’s first openly gay professional ice hockey player – was still an active Traitor as the game entered its final stages.

Following the 29-year-old’s death, Finnish TV network Nelonen announced that they had postponed the showing of the final episode.

In a statement on social media, they wrote: “The final episode of the season of ‘Petolliset’ was scheduled to be shown on Thursday of this week. We have come to the conclusion that right now is not the right time to air an episode. We will return to the question of the possible presentation of the episode later.

“We share in the grief of Janne’s loved ones.”
