Lady Gaga is so back, Tale Tellers. Mother Monster has finally dropped her latest single, Disease, from her upcoming seventh album, referred to as “LG7.” It’s dark, it’s very dance pop, and it’s crammed with interesting lyrics about suffering and healing.
While most (regular) fans are simply vibing along to the long-awaited Gaga hit, calling it the new Bad Romance or a feistier version of The Cure, other, more probing fans are investigating the song for hidden meanings and references.
Gaga is indeed back with a bang (Disease is one heck of a pop bop), but I’m mostly engrossed with the messy drama that’s come with her return.
Fans think she is low key throwing shade and getting catty (or shall we say Katy) at a “rival” pop star with the release of her new single. How, you may ask? Scroll down to get sucked in to all the drama…
How Does ‘Disease’ by Lady Gaga Connect to Katy Perry?
Unless you’ve been living under a rock this last decade, you’ll know that Lady Gaga and Katy Perry have had a rivalry against each other. Little Monsters and Katy Cats are now speculating that the war is back on as Gaga releases her new single on Katy Perry‘s birthday (October 25th).

What Happened Between Lady Gaga and Katy Perry?
Katy Perry’s “flop era” (as trolls have named it), has seen her recent projects (Woman’s World and 143) get scrutinized for lacking creativity, while Katy herself was dubbed a “hypocrite” for collaborating with producer Dr. Luke—who’s been accused of sexual assault by singer Kesha.
Back in 2018, Gaga made critical remarks about Katy in a text exchange with Kesha, where she called her pop rival “so mean,” claiming she makes her “so angry.”
Gaga later tweeted that she no longer had negative feelings toward Katy, and called her “my friend,” to which Katy replied, “Love you too friend.” Still, Katy Cats and Little Monsters continue to clash to this very day, pitting their idols against each other end engaging in stan wars.
It also doesn’t help that Lady Gaga and Katy Perry’s music has always competed throughout their music careers.
Both artists debuted in 2008, they’re both among the best-selling female singers of all time, and even their hit singles, Roar and Applause were released on the same day back in 2013. Let’s not forget Katy was once accused of slamming Gaga’s Alejandro video, while Mother Monster was said to have dissed Perry’s Prismatic Tour in 2014. Yeah, the “feud” has been long-standing, aright.
Given the messy history between the two musicians, it’s hard to tell whether Gaga’s chosen release date for Disease was indeed a jab at Katy. Either way, fans are definitely going there, and I will continue to sip this tea for the time being…
