Looks like the British public still has a thing for boyband members

Here is the interesting connection reigning King of the Jungle Danny Jones shares with previous I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! winners.

Last night (8 December) saw the curtain come down on another year of I’m A Celeb shenanigans, with the public tasked with deciding between McFly singer Jones, Coleen Rooney and Reverend Richard Coles would be crowned winner.

Coles, 62, would finish in third place while 38-year-old Rooney would finish runner-up to Jones after 10 million votes were cast on the app.

However were you aware the musician has surprising connections to previous winners of the show?

How many members of McFly have participated in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

Jones is the second member of the pop-rock group to take home the top prize on the ITV reality series, with bassist Dougie Poynter beating TOWIE‘s Mark Wright and retired Olympian Fatima Whitbread to the crown in 2011.

Guitarist Tom Fletcher’s wife Giovanna would also have a successful run on the show, winning the series in 2020.

The success isn’t limited to just McFly either, with Busted guitarist Matt Willis managing to beat both soap actor Jason Donovan and iconic I’m A Celeb campmate Myleene Klass to first place.

Broaden the category from I’m A Celeb to reality competitions more generally and you’ll find even more success associated with the McFly brand, as Jones previously won this years season of The Masked Singer while Harry Judd was successful in clinching the Glitterball during his 2011 stint on Strictly Come Dancing.

Which just goes to show that the British public’s enduring love for boybands lives on.

Viewers were also unsurprised to see that Jones – who had been the bookies favourite to win the show – took home the crown, with one person writing on social media: “Not even surprised the McFly boys are super genuine and good lads their fan base is massive for a reason.”

“The PULL that @McFly fans have over the voting on this show is insane,” a second person added.

However not everyone was convinced by this argument, with a third viewer commenting: “everyone always talking about the mcfly fan base dragging people through to the end but i don’t think i’ve met someone who’s actually a mcfly fan in my entire life.”

Reflecting on his time in the jungle before being crowned winner, Jones called the experience ‘unbelievable’, saying: “This is totally insane. I’ve learned so much about myself, and that’s because the camp mates were unbelievable.
